Dear Partner, |
In light of publisher feedback, we're announcing updates to our ad transparency features. Specifically, in Q3 2024, we will launch per-creative controls on ad badging for publisher managed creatives, and the sunsetting of Mute This Ad on reservations. |
These updates aim to give publishers more control over where and when Google's ad badging appears on their creatives, and reduce certain instances of creatives being muted for reservations. |
Ad Badging |
Today, while publishers may disable ad badging for ads served outside of the European Economic Area (EEA), ad badging is permanently enabled for all creatives served to users in the EEA. |
In Q3 2024, we will introduce a control that allows publishers to disable ad badging on a creative level for publisher managed creatives. We will also offer a network-level control for publishers to choose whether ad badging appears on publisher managed creatives worldwide or only in the EEA. |
Where publishers disable Google's ad badging solution, publishers must ensure that ads served to users in the EEA include a mechanism for users to report illegal content. Publishers must notify Google of any illegal content reports using the appropriate form. |
For publisher-rendered formats publishers are required to send an appropriate &wta signal to indicate whether the publisher is rendering Google's ad badging solution. An ad request with &wta=1 or no &wta parameter is understood to indicate that the publisher will render the provided AdChoices information. |
If an ad request includes &wta=0 then, beginning no earlier than September 10th, 2024, any creative in Ad Manager with Google's ad badging solution enabled would be ineligible to serve to users in the EEA. Creatives that do not have Google's ad badging solution enabled will still be eligible for these requests. |
Mute This Ad |
As we continue to evolve our ad transparency offering, we are also looking to reduce complexity for publishers. As part of this effort, Google Ad Manager will sunset the Mute This Ad feature on reservation creatives in Q3 2024. |
The Mute This Ad functionality will continue to be available on ads from Google demand. You can monitor for further updates in our Help Center. |
Until next time, |
The Google Ad Manager Team |
